An exploration in the beauty that can be transmuted from death.
Manifested through my recent challenging health experience.
I was inspired to start creating art with skulls after observing the flowers of large thistle plants in the Okanagan.
I thought they looked like eyes. And then next thing you know I’m digging through old hunting treasures from my cousin’s past hunts because I couldn’t get this vision out of my head.
On forest walks, botanicals I don’t normally forage jumped out at me. I saw lichen as wispy, mystical extensions for antlers, moss and the tiniest of fungi- bits of the forest I always adore the most- showed me new ways to immortalize and highlight their beauty.
All botanicals used are wild harvested and hand-preserved. Skull and botanicals originating from the Okanagan, Shuswap, and North Peace regions of British Columbia.
This piece features a real preserved butterfly, thistle flower eyes, tiny mushroom and moss vignettes, northern Indian paintbrush, yarrow, fireweed, and glided rainforest tree lungwort.
Includes European mount.
