Hi everybody. I am so, so excited for you guys to be here for myself to be here. We're just absolutely excited about this podcast. And we're gonna be talking about everything, health and wellness, a lot of really cool things, in terms of spirituality. I thought that we would kick off this podcast by just introducing myself Christopher core.
I just wanted to share a little bit about my myself, my health journey, my spiritual journey, and also how wild remedies came to. So right now you probably think that wild remedies is just a podcast, but, it's actually a health food company as well the way that I created the company was a series of really, really magical events. We're gonna bring everything back to the beginning with my health journey. So as long as I can remember, I have had significant health issues ever since I was a little girl, it initially started out as a lot of throat infections. I had chronic tonsillitis all the time. Um, you know, if it wasn't tonsillitis, it was some other infection I was on a lot of antibiotics and I think we all know at this point, if you don't yet, antibiotics are really great for some things, and we need them, but overuse also causes a lot of health issues. That ended up really kicking my ass later in life, to be honest.
I've had to do a ton of healing work both physically, spiritually, and emotionally to get to the point where, where I am I just really wanna share this journey with you guys in case anything resonates because I know so many people all over the world are struggling with health issues. It is a, it's an epidemic, right?
Um, physical health, emotional health, spiritual health, we're all really, really suffering. I think it's important to share our stories with other people. I know for myself, podcasts have been a really fabulous way. For me to, you know, find little breadcrumbs on the way to my, my own healing. And so I hope my story and the stories of the incredible people that we're going to have on our show.
Um can, can help you. So again, being a young girl, having all of these health issues, it kind of transformed into all sorts of things. We had all of the physical illness and then in my teens, the mental illness started to show up. By the time I was 14, I had severe clinical depression. Um, you know, I was contemplating suicide
and after the depression, the panic attacks. So I can remember being 16 years old. I had just had one of the several surgeries that I've had in my life with all of these weird things that would crop up. I think I had some like weird sister, whatever, and it was after that surgery that I was laying in my bed and I had this.
Absolutely horrifying feeling of dread kind of starting my spine and it creeped up my back and it just overtook my entire being. Freaked out. I had no idea what was going on at the time I had, you know, as teenagers due experimented with some psychedelics and stuff. And I was like, oh my God, like, this feels like a bad mushroom trip or something.
And I'm like, but I don't understand. Like I didn't do any drugs so you can imagine. And I was just absolutely terrified. I ran outta my room and went to tell my mom and she got angry. Initially. She was like, well, what's, what's wrong with you? I, I woke her up in the middle of the night and I was like, I don't know.
It feels like I did drugs, but I didn't do drugs. And she's like, what? And she's like, what's going on? And so she was in nursing school at the time. And she's going through her. Her books trying to figure out like what it is, that's wrong with me. I was like, well, maybe it's a reaction to the anti, bios or whatever that you're on after the surgery that, that I had.
And luckily at that time, I guess panic attacks were starting to become more of a thing. I mean, it's not a lucky thing, but these, these are syndromes that were just really never experienced in, in any culture up until, you know, um, recent times with all of the antibiotic use and chemicals and things in our environment.
And just the way that we, we work in our society, People's nervous systems are just completely overrun. My doctor was able to diagnose it and then of course prescribe me a pill. by the time I reached my early twenties, I was on. Eight prescriptions at one point. So I had two different antidepressants for the panic attacks and the anxiety and the depression.
And then, you know, I was on. Tramadol painkillers. I eventually had my tonsils removed at the age of 23. So these chronic infections I was getting about 10 times a year, finally, some doctor was like, okay, we need to get these things out. So I had this extremely traumatic. Surgery in, in my early twenties, they took my tonsils out.
They kind of botched the surgery. They ended up burning the entire side of my tongue. I don't think I've ever been in so much pain in my entire life. It was absolutely horrifying. It was just completely flat out for about 10 days taking like two big Percocets every four hours for 10 days, because the pain was just so, so wildly, wildly painful. Once the tonsils were out, it was great. And you know, I wasn't getting throat infections anymore, but all of these other symptoms started cropping. My body ballooned in size, I was almost 200 pounds at one point. The inflammation, it was extremely difficult for me to function or get out of bed.
The pain was. Constant. The exhaustion was overwhelming and I would go to see naturopaths and all of these other things, because I wasn't getting any answers through the Western medical system. They just told me, well, you're just a really sick person and you're gonna have to be on all these medications, your entire life.
That's that. Right. I think a lot of people end up receiving those answers through the Western medical system. And it's extremely frustrating. So I, I kind of started at that point in my early twenties, just looking right. Like what else can I do? There's no way that I can spend my entire life feeling like this.
So naturopaths were, you know, saying, oh, well, you know, it's adrenal fatigue. Here's a whole bunch of supplements that you need to take. And, oh, you know, it, it's your, you know, some sort of like hormonal system, here's, you know, more supplements and nothing was really working. At this time I was in so much emotional and physical pain that I started.
Self-medicating. I mean, to be honest, I was self-medicating from a really young age, um, where I'm from and the culture that we have here in Canada is, I mean, especially when, you know, I was a teenager, binge drinking and partying was just a really big thing that everybody did. And I started quite young and that continued well into my twenties.
In early thirties, let's face it. You know, it, it kept me on this perpetual cycle not only was I, you know, sick with all of these syndromes and things, but I was also making myself sick with drugs and alcohol.
And there was this cycle. It was like, I would get to Friday, I'd have a couple of days where I'm feeling great. And I'm like, okay, cool. Like I can go out and hang out with my friends and party, whatever. And then I, it was, it was really self sabotaging. I think I had just become so used to being so sick my entire life, that once I started to feel a little bit better, I just brought myself right back down and then things got to a point where I just, I, I hit rock bottom.
I was contemplating the fact that, maybe I was an alcoholic and a drug addict. because I'd been doing this to myself repeatedly over and over and over again for so many years. I was just completely and utterly sick of myself. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. And then I kind of had this divine intervention and I always talk about this, this journey on, on other podcasts.
But I like to say that Netflix saved my life I was probably hungover. I think I was hungover watching Netflix one day. . And this was a period of time when these, uh, food documentaries that were starting to come out. I can't remember the exact one that I watched if it was forks over knives or hungry for change, but it was one of those.
That was a huge paradigm shift for me. The fact that. Companies were purposely putting things in our food to make us addicted to them. and that a lot of these things are not food. They are chemicals and other things that actually affect our health in a very negative way, just totally blew my mind.
And I was like, Oh, hell no. Like this is not, this is not cool, not cool. I really knew nothing about nutrition at that point. Um, struggling with my weight, for many, many years, I'd gone on some diets and things. And I, I think I remember like the first diet I ever went on, I was like, I'm just gonna eat like a whole bunch of soda crackers.
Like I'm just, I'm gonna live off of soda crackers. Like that made sense in my brain at the time, I literally, I just, I had zero clue. And around the same time that I had discovered these food documentaries, I also watched the secret on Netflix and that was a huge paradigm shift for me. So my entire life, I had always been very, I guess, enamored with the unseen, I remember picking up books on, you know, paganism or Wicca and just kind of thumbing through the pages and thinking they were really interesting and stuff, but didn't really apply to me, but my God did I ever wish that magic was real?
It would just be the coolest thing. Like there has to be more to life than that than, than what we see on a daily basis. This documentary to me, kind of. Clicked in a way. And it, I mean, both these documentaries, they really threw me down this rabbit hole. So on the nutrition side, I started studying everything that I could and I thought, okay, well, you know what, I'm just gonna totally change everything up.
I remember actually Chris Carr, she was in one of the documentaries that I had watched. So I bought one of her books and I ended up doing like this vegan cleanse recommended in one of her books for about a month or two and saw some pretty significant shifts in, in my health. Like I was still, you know, struggling with my energy and things like that, but my body was changing.
I also quit drinking completely. Which obviously is gonna make a huge difference. It definitely kick started my journey. And I actually ended up remaining vegetarian for about four years after that. It got me really interested in just food and flavors. And I always, always really loved cooking.
I'm a very creative person, um, by trade I'm a designer and a creative director which I've been for about 14 years now. And so any form of creativity for me is just, I, I, I absolutely love it. I got familiar with nutritional east and , you know, making my own really cool juices and stuff.
And I just absolutely love playing around with that and being able to, uh, get creative with healthy food, because when we come from a place of binging on mcDonald's and all of these things that are filled with different chemicals and excitotoxins and all of these things that are lighting up, like the dopamine receptors in our brain all the time.
When you switch to healthy whole food, it can be not palatable in the beginning. So that was a really important aspect for me was that everything still tastes really good. That's actually one of the reasons behind, our wild remedies products or magic latte collection. I really wanted to, to focus on flavor, to make sure that people actually really enjoyed the products because a lot of times health food doesn't always taste super great.
I mean, we've made leaps and bounds, definitely in the industry and things are tasting much better, but that is a big deal for me. On the spiritual side I think. I don't know if I would say that I come from a scientific background, but I really, really love biology and chemistry and things like that when I was in school.
And I ended up coming across a really fantastic book called the science of the soul. Is that correct? By ISIT Gwai and it was a deep dive into quantum physics, which I. Totally aligned with, I just, I thought this was so cool. I'm like, okay. So magic is quantifiable. I mean, I don't even think at that point that I considered it to be magic.
I was just like, okay, this law of attraction thing, there's really something to it. And there's these unseen forces. And since reading that book, it really pushed me in the direction of learning so many different modalities of spirituality. So I kind of consider myself. I guess a little, I, I really like the idea of perennial philosophy, right?
So all of the different religions of the world really stem from the same origin story and there's beautiful things that we can learn throughout all of them. But there is something that is
Marker
very deep and consistent and an origin story to, to all of them that really ties everybody on, on this planet to together.
Now, around this time, again, all of this deep introspection work, starting to feel more confident in myself, my body having some more energy in my life. I started getting pushed in this direction where. I didn't wanna do anything that I was doing anymore, the way that I had been doing it. At that point I had had a ad agency in Camelo British Columbia, Canada.
I had the ad agency for about four years, four and a half years. And I was like, you know what? I gotta do something totally different. Like, I don't know if I need to move. To another country I'd considered like, oh, well, you know, maybe I'll move to Montreal. And I, I really wanted to help people. That's a, another thing about me, I'm, I'm a Libra rising and, um, I have a lot of activism in, in my spirit and I had done some cool trips and things, and raise money for schools in Africa and all of these things.
I really wanted to be able. Use my talents in order to help others in some way. And so I thought, well, maybe creating, you know, like a nonprofit and getting some cash from the government or whatever, in order to help different organizations and things, be able to get their message out. I ended up kind of switching gears when I decided, you know what, I think I'm gonna try working for someone else for a little bit.
So I've been an entrepreneur for a really long time and I thought, well, you know, maybe it'd be cool to work for like a startup or something. I could go to San Francisco and maybe work for like one of those cool tech startup. And so I'm looking through my phone and I'm like, well, what are the apps and things that I really like using.
One of the apps that I've been using quite significantly at that point is called Oana, which is an app by the company called mind valley. I was doing the Silva, uh, method, um, the, the meditation that they used to promote there, which is really fabulous. If anyone ever wants to look into it, I highly highly recommend.
So I reached out to mind valley and for those who don't know, I mean, mind, Valley's a pretty famous company. If you're in the personal development, um, realm at all, I'm sure you've heard of it, but essentially it is a company that is located in koala Lumpur, Malaysia. And it's very Google-esque vision.
The founder there, he absolutely loves design. And so the offices are beautiful and the marketing is beautiful it just seemed like an incredible mission that I wanted to join. So I applied. And in three months time, I had got the job. I had sold everything that I owned and I got on a plane and I moved to Malaysia.
I didn't know where it was. I was like, well, I don't know. It's on the map somewhere by Thailand. Like, it should be fine. I'm just gonna go and see and see what happens. And so that's what I did. And I ended up working for mine valley and living in Puala Lumpur for two and a half years. So this is back in 2014 and it was a really incredible experience.
I was still working on my personal health, you know, and obviously now I was just totally entrenched in all of the personal development and spiritual things that mind valley embodies and attending a Fest and meeting all of these really incredible people, which just opened up a whole new world for me.
It. It was, it was a really cool time. There was also a ton of traveling around that time. So the one cool thing about working at mind valley is their philosophy is you can kind of work from wherever so you can work in the office or you can take off to Bali on the weekend and get a Villa and work from there.
With, with a group of friends, everybody was really into traveling at the office. So we, we did that quite often, which was, which was really cool. The time that I spent there was really fantastic. And I had also co-founded another startup while I was there. I'm a manifesting generator. which means that I have a very difficult time doing just one thing, a multitasker.
I have several projects on the go all the time. I ended up, um, co-founding this other startup, which had to do with health and wellness and it was really great, but I kind of got to the point where I was like, you know what. I think I'd like to use my talents to create my own thing, like a physical product of some sort.
I didn't know what that was gonna look like. But I thought, well, I don't know. It's it's just gonna come, you know, I, I, I know I want it to be colorful. I think it needs to be a beverage of some sort, but yeah, I don't know. I'm just, you know, wasn't feeling the mind valley thing anymore. Wasn't feeling the other startup thing anymore.
And I ended up going home to Canada for a couple of months during the summer. and that's when the first really interesting mystical things started happening. So prior to this, obviously being at mind value, I was doing a lot of like internal work, breaking some, you know, cognitive, I guess, thoughts and feelings and emotions around money and just learning how to think bigger.
I had kind of come to this point and this understanding where I felt like I really needed to create something big, like a big business that could help people in the planet. I kind of had like this little framework, but I didn't know how I was gonna make that happen at this point. So I just kinda left it up to the universe.
I'm back in Canada. and within the period of seven days, three really interesting things happened. So the first thing was my old business partner had gotten in touch with me and she was like, oh, Hey Krista, you know, I've been working with this, um, guy, he's got this really cool product and he's looking for design help.
Would you like to chat with him? And, See what it's all about. And I was like, okay, cool. So I go for coffee with this guy. And he starts telling me about this chaga mushroom tea that he's been making. And that he's just been like bottling the tea and selling it at festivals and wanted like some labels or something for them.
And He's telling me about all of the health benefits of this medicinal mushroom. I'm like, Whoa. Like, what is this? Like, I've never heard of this ever before in my life. And I was into all the weird health food stuff, right? Like I was getting fresh, gooey spirulina from Bali that I was putting in like my juices every morning and, you know, the nutritional use and all of the things that were strange back then, um, that was my jam.
So I was like, wow, this is really cool. And he is talking about like all the anti-cancer effects of chaga and how it has the highest source of antioxidants on the planet and all of these things. And I'm just like, whoa, holy shit. This is really cool. Okay. I'm gonna put a pin in this interesting.
A couple of days later, I go to my girlfriend Judy's place and we were doing mushrooms of a different kind that day and she brought up chaga. I was like, this is really interesting. So Judy, um, you know, she was really interested in shamanism and things at the time. She started talking about this chaga mushroom and how it's been used in first nations, uh, culture for a really long time and all of the health benefits.
And I was like, that's so weird. Some guy just mentioned this to me the other day and I was like, Hmm, okay. Gonna put a pin in it. Then a couple of days later. I went to the center of the universe. Now you've probably never heard of this place. Most people haven't, but outside of my hometown of Camloops, um, it's about 45 minute drive up dead man's Creek to Vette lake.
There is this area called the center of the universe. And the story is that back in the seventies, an apprentice monk from San Francisco just showed up. To this place, he did a bunch of energetic tests and declared it to be the center of the universe for Buddhist or something. I don't know. Anyway, it's become this very auspicious place.
Now people come from all over the world to do meditations and retreats and things there. I had just heard about it before I had moved overseas, had never visited and thought, okay, well this is something that I have to do when I, when I get back. So my mom and dad. Came with me, which is really weird because they're not into the stuff at all.
We ended up going to this place and we were met by the gentleman that owns the property and he was kind enough to take us on a tour. So he took us around and we took our shoes off and we were grounding and he showed us how to water, which, and had a water witch. And we were doing some meditations and things.
And Then he was, you know, showing us some things that you can eat in the forest. At that point, he kind of stopped and he looked at me and he was like, have you ever heard of chaga? ? And I was like, okay. Okay. All right. I got the message. I'm in the center of the universe. This has been brought to my attention three times in one week.
I think this is something that I need to look into. So when I move or when I went back to Malaysia, a few weeks later, I just got completely obsessed and I started researching about medicinal mushrooms. This was at the time where medicinal mushrooms were not trendy. Like four Sigmatic was a thing, but they, you know, I think they had like 2,500 followers on Instagram at that time.
If you don't know for Sigmatic is a big mushroom company, some guys from Finland, and they've done an absolutely beautiful job of educating people, the mainstream of Western culture on the benefits of medicinal mushrooms. So I thought, well, oh man, there's definitely a market here. This is really interesting.
So I just started reaching out and getting these really cool extracts and stuff sent to my place in Malaysia. And I was testing them out and was totally shocked at actually how lovely the flavor of like a chaga tea is. And so I figured out the very best ways to consume it the most potent ways to consume it. I ended up
making. My own tea. It was my very first product with wild remedies was a chaga mushroom tea. It was just a very simple blend of a very, very, very potent , um, wild Siberian chaga extract that I source from Russia. And I just mixed it with some really high quality organic sale on cinnamon, which helps to open the pathways and things in order to absorb the nutrients of the.
I was like, this is it. This is the thing that I'm going to do with my life. And it was just one product. I had no business plan. I had no idea what I was doing, but I had big dreams and I was gonna get it out there. So I , I've launched the product at the Bali spirit festival, which is this big, you know, new age festival in Bali.
I think it's in OOD. And I borrowed some cash from my sister, cuz I wasn't making a whole lot of money at, uh, at mine valley at that point. So she was my first investor. I think she gave me like four grand or something and I ended up, you know, making, I don't know, few 500 tins, I think of the tea and I put a whole bunch into my suitcase and booked this flight to Bali to go to the Bali spirit festival and sell my tea halfway through the flight.
I'm going. Oh, shit. Is this gonna be a problem? Like I have like kilos of brown mushroom powder in tins in my suitcase. Oh God. And so the dreads started creeping in and I was like, oh man, okay. I hope this isn't a problem. Now it's gonna be fine. The universe has got my back. Totally cool. So I get to Bali and I'm trying to get through security and they flag me and they're like, what is in your bag?
So there's this security guard who looks extremely unimpressed with me. He's going through my bags. He picks up one of these tins and he's glaring at me. Like he is not impressed. He opens one of the tins and all of this brown mushroom powder comes flying out. Onto his hand and I'm just like, oh shit.
It's not drugs. I swear to God it's not drugs. Like it is just it's tea, it's just tea. And then he looks at me again, like not impress. And he's like, are you selling this tea here? And I'm like, No, no, no, no, no. It's for charity. It's for the Bali spirit festival charity. just lying through my teeth and this guy he's looking at me and he is like, oh, okay. You can tell, he is thinking, I'm like, fuck, fuck, fuck. I'm gonna go to jail. I'm gonna go to jail. Aren't I, and he just kind of waves me over and lets me go.
I'm like, oh, thank you universe. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. So I made it to the Vally spirit festival to launch my product. And it was a total flop. It was like five bajillion degrees out. I'm sitting in this little tent outside selling hot tea right next to a vendor who's selling ice cream.
Yeah, I didn't sell that much also. Like I think I had the tea price at like $50 with something ridiculous at the time. It was a total shit show, but anyway, That is the origin of how I started the wild remedies company. And it has been quite an adventure ever since I tried to get that tea all over the place.
I went down to LA and I went to all the cool shops. I actually had the product in a one for a little bit, which was really cool. The buyer there, Vicky was just absolutely wonderful. And she loved the packaging. Obviously the packaging was beautiful because I'm a designer and that's my. And that's always everybody's first comment when they see our products.
She was very kind and we had some products on the shelf at the time, but I really just had no idea what I was doing. I didn't have a proper team. I didn't have a business plan. I didn't have a product line. I just had one product. all I knew was that the universe told me that this is what I need to do in my life.
So that's what I was doing. And this was also backed up by a couple of other interactions that I had with some mystics. One woman, Danielle, um, did my Vata astrology chart at one point. It was absolutely wild. What she told me, you know, she was just taking a look at my chart and she's like, well, I see that you need to be doing something in health and it needs to be luxury focused and it needs to be marketed to women.
And I was like, okay, that's literally what I'm doing. She's like, cool. Well, you're doing your Dharma and the universe will, you know, have your back throughout this whole thing. And I was like, well, okay. Yeah. Makes sense. So all this time I was already listening and following, you know, the messages and things that I, I was given one of the.
You know, one of my most favorite books on the entire planet is called the surrender experiment by Michael singer. I absolutely love the message about, you know, the universe giving you signs. And when you get these signs, you need to follow them, right? Like it's taking you in the direction that, that you need to be in.
That's really a Testament to how I've lived my life for the past. Several years. And, uh, you know, gotten me to, to where I am at this point with, a whole product line and, you know, a proper company and doing everything the, the, the right way.
Another really important person that ended up entering into my life. That's helped guide me on my journey. So I talked about, uh, the one woman who had done my chart and how that was very validating.
So I met another woman who is a psychic and I actually work. On a continual basis with about three intuitive women that I just absolutely admire and have given me so much courage when it comes to the big things that I do in my life, running a company is really, really frigging hard. It is lonely.
I've been working at this for six years now. I went from. Literally having no idea what I was doing Hawking like one little product for several years. And, you know, being told by this one woman Puja that there would be all of this product development and all of these things.
And she gave me these cycles and these timings, and she has been right on the money with literally everything in my life for the past five years, which has been absolutely amazing. So when I finally did things the right way and I built the business plan and I ended up getting the loans and things in order to create our current product line, you know, that, that shit was really scary, but she told me she's like, get it done at whatever cost, like this is what you're meant to do.
That has been such a blessing for me in, in this life. And. Another thing that we're really going to focus on in this podcast. You know, I know these really incredible mystics and all of these cool people that are helping so, so many, and yes, we're going to focus on nutrition and mental health and all of these things.
But the spiritual aspect of healing is really, really the most important. There is so much out there that we don't know about. That cannot be seen, but that really, really does dictate the way that we show up and function in this world.
And It's also why I called our products magic lattes, right? Like I feel like I ended up creating these products out of all of these really, really magical experiences that have supported me along the way. Another really important part about why we're going to delve into, you know, mysticism and psycho-spiritual healing is because that is still a huge part of my healing journey.
At this point, I'd say I'm like, About 80, 85, 90% healed. There's still a little bit of stuff that I'm working on. Just in the recent couple of years has been a huge shift for me. So one being cutting out gluten, I discovered that the majority of my anxiety and depression had been caused by gluten cutting that out has been absolutely amazing.
So that's been like a nutritional aspect. Then there's still these things that are hanging on, right. And in the past few months, working with some spiritual healers, I've come to understand that, you know, these imbalances in my body are stemming from an emotional trauma that has been connected to my throat.
Now, remember at the beginning of the podcast, when I was talking about these throat infections that I was getting, right. So we had the throat infections. We take out the tonsils. Then this issue moves to the thyroid, which causes the weight gain, which causes the hormonal imbalance, which causes, you know, cetera, cetera, et cetera.
This is the key to real healing, right? It is pinpointing. The traumas and the issues that we've had, which everybody has, right? Like a trauma can be, you know, Something that one person may not find a traumatic thing, but as a small child, it affects you in a way that ends up creating an energetic residue that imprints on your body.
And we call these things a healing journey because it is a journey. It's a journey of self discovery. It's a journey of Talking to different healers, listening to podcasts, all of these different things that we need to do in order to figure out how to heal ourselves, because yes, we can ask all these people for advice and we can try all these different healing Mo modalities, but ultimately the way to healing is.
Through the things that we already have in our body, our soul, whatever it is inside of us that makes our heartbeat and makes our hair grow. These are the primal things like our body wants to be whole and wants to be healthy and knows how to be, but we need to figure out how to clear a lot of those things out those traumas out in order to come into perfect balance.
I'm getting real close. You guys, it's, it's really, really close. Like if you had seen me a few years ago, you wouldn't recognize me. I really, really, really hope that the information that, you know, I can impart and that these amazing guests that we're gonna have on the podcast can help you as well, because I know what it's like to not wanna get out of bed.
