All right? Ken welcome to the wild remedies podcast I'm so excited to be chatting with you today. How are you.

00:07.56
cian
I'm great enjoying some vitamin d today. It's a beautiful day here in Vancouver. Thanks for having me.

00:12.59
wildremedies
Yay! I'm so excited to hear that is it going to be nice next week do you know? I'm going to be in Vancouver for a week

00:19.68
cian
You know I didn't look past this week but I know it's got a few good days coming up. Oh yeah, yeah, they are actually we had ah some people in an ice bath on Sunday and.

00:22.95
wildremedies
I Hope so are the cherry blossoms out yet. Yay.

00:33.54
cian
There was 1 participant in particular who was locked in on the cherry blossoms to help him feel some good vibes some spring spring energy.

00:40.10
wildremedies
Ah I love that? Yeah, you guys get spring about a month earlier than we do here in co Colonna and so I always love coming down to Vancouver around this time. So it's like we're we're starting to warm up here but I get to come to Vancouver and there's going to be green.

00:45.60
cian
By her.

00:56.50
wildremedies
Things and flowers and that just gives me so much life I'm so excited. Wonderful! Well I'm yeah, been really looking forward to this conversation that we're going to have today about breathwork.

01:00.48
cian
Um, ah yeah.

01:09.72
cian
Um, move.

01:12.72
wildremedies
And stretching and all of those things but before we dive into that I want to talk about some of the drastic changes that you've had in your life I know that um you know things were a lot different for you when you were younger and.

01:22.65
cian
Design.

01:28.88
cian
Um, this is.

01:31.82
wildremedies
Pretty inspirational. So why don't Why don't we start there.

01:33.92
cian
Sure yeah it's a big big part of my story and something I'm really stepping into is moving beyond this this drive for drastic shifts and big changes I think part of that came from moving around a lot as a kid and and an adult. Getting used to big changes getting getting comfortable with that and making big career career changes I worked in wind power um sort of engineering science type work studying air I switched over to professional boxing and then I came into. And Vancouver did more restorative work and healing work. But yeah, part part of the story is that I had a boom bust cycle of growth and I would kind of slack off and coast a bit until something really needed to happen then I would.

02:20.97
wildremedies
And.

02:30.86
cian
Work hard and urgently at things anything from exams to fitness you know, um, boxing of course was great because there was a consequence to not training hard and that is I would get beaten up and I hope.

02:47.87
wildremedies
It.

02:50.32
cian
Also learned about breathing in boxing too. You know that if I didn't breathe properly I would there would be a consequence but then when I stop boxing thinking that I feel amazing I think I'm good to go here I quickly realized that that drive to train hard was. Was challenging to find without a major consequence or or a threat and so that's um, that's something I'm stepping more into now. Just really appreciating what I have I'm really grounded in Vancouver I love the work I do and married have have a kid. We bought some land. I'm just really dialing in on the things that I already have that are great I'm making small daily changes to to improve those.

03:36.42
wildremedies
Um, Kate well let's let's talk about the pro boxing part so I didn't know this about you. Um, let's go all the way back to like first where where you from and like how did you get into.

03:42.79
cian
Um.

03:53.89
wildremedies
Boxing like why did you? Why did you choose boxing.

03:58.10
cian
That's a good question. Well I'm from Ireland Born and raised in Ireland I'm about 15 years over here. It was a little less than half the time in the us and then the rest of their time here in Vancouver.

03:59.53
wildremedies
And.

04:11.42
cian
Um, yeah in the us I went there for engineering that ended up quitting my job and I went back to a childhood passion of of boxing something that I felt was unfinished and and I yeah went went back boxing out of just frustration from sitting on a desk just feeling. Imprisoned in my body a bit just needed to really express some energy and then when I went back in it was the perfect storm of great coaching I was living in Pittsburgh at the time you know good good old working working town hardy people there and. Everything aligned and I kind of unleashed some energy or you could say some fury to some ferociousness came through me that was stifled in the office and so that took off from there how I got into boxing in Ireland you know the the kind of. Tamer version is that I was in a small town and I was a little bit bored and me and my brother decided to go to a boxing gym. At one point there was there was a guy a professional in art and doing quite well at the time his name was Steve Collins the celtic warrior

05:20.64
wildremedies
E.

05:24.14
cian
And so it was quite alive in the in the country exciting. And yeah, it was just um, ended up going there but later in my personal growth Journey I did connect it back to some some violence that I witnessed in the family growing up and that was what. You know, drove me to learn how to to defend myself I didn't know that at the time but subconsciously there was something that me am a brother Witness. You know an incident that was that was hard for us and I think we both were drawn drawn to learn to defend.

05:55.57
wildremedies
He he.

06:02.18
cian
That that all came together like like only in my early thirty s that I piece all that together.

06:08.24
wildremedies
Okay, interesting. So We went from boxing to engineering and you know now we're working in kind of like personal growth and breathwork and body work like that that is that's a lot of change. Seems to be a bit of a theme in your life right? like lots of move not lots change and now you're kind of I don't know if I would say stationary but you feel like a little bit more grounded right now.

06:28.67
cian
Yeah.

06:39.31
cian
Definitely definitely. So yeah I feel I've been living in the same city for 8 years you know that's actually the longest they've ever lived anywhere and yeah, just deepening friendships and you know, just.

06:45.44
wildremedies
A.

06:55.62
cian
Getting a reputation for what I do you know rather than starting afresh somewhere is exciting and you get this new energy and you can change some habits and but they end up coming back I realize you can move to a new place. You get this fresh start people don't know you.

07:06.94
wildremedies
In the.

07:14.00
cian
Really thrived off that energy to be honest I was really good at that at meeting people and but then the really deepening the connection is something that I'm wanting to lean into more now that I'm really here? yeah.

07:31.34
wildremedies
I Feel that and I really identify with it as Well. Um I've moved a lot in my life as well and like yeah literally I've lived all over the world. And for a while it was a big part of my identity I felt like my life was boring or it wasn't worthwhile unless I was constantly moving.

07:48.50
cian
Um, then.

07:56.51
wildremedies
Um, community was something that was always difficult for me I would have it for a little bit and then I would lose it and it's something that I always craved but there is an aspect of like needing to be in 1 place and create those relationships over time ah in order to you know. Get out like you need to put in what you want to get out of of a community and if you're moving around a lot. Um that that's tough, but that's always my go to as well like oh if things aren't feeling great or I'm uncomfortable just going to burn it down and leave. Ah.

08:21.65
cian
Um, you can.

08:31.21
cian
Yeah, yeah, and it's freeing. There's a freedom that comes with that too that that feels really nice. You can just at any moment. Yeah I used to never have any leases I used to always have like month to month phone I I did a lot of backpacking before I started my.

08:45.93
wildremedies
Um, yeah.

08:49.47
cian
Office job too and I was I was always ready to go you know. But now if especially with the world situation too I feel yeah there is that definite possibility to to run again or to move and start afresh for a lot of reasons.

08:51.70
wildremedies
In.

09:02.33
wildremedies
You hear hear.

09:08.95
cian
But I've definitely yeah, just committed to this is where I'm staying and this is this is where it's going to this is where the growth is happening for me too. Um, you know I guess to bring it back and like I always I kind of needed a bit of a push to work and then once that.

09:16.80
wildremedies
You had.

09:27.60
cian
Yeah, if you put my back against the wall I'll work hard and fast and get a lot of stuff done but that created kind of a hectic energy that just it was just a bit erratic. Um and like boxing was a bit like that too.

09:45.22
cian
So I've really been trying to just just embody or embrace the desire to thrive just for just just to thrive to be to be our true selves to remember who who we are and I feel like that push has come back in the last few years

09:57.21
wildremedies
Um, you are.

10:01.10
cian
So that urge that I kind of sometimes really needed to really wake up. Um, it's it's come in the last few years with all that's been going on in the world. So that yeah.

10:09.46
wildremedies
Yeah I see what you mean there I know there has definitely been something that awoken me in the past few few years as well where it was like finding your people and building community is. More important than ever in a world where there's a lot of division and the focus on health and healing is just so important right now and people are just.

10:34.33
cian
Are the.

10:41.28
cian
Um, yeah is.

10:46.70
wildremedies
Starving for something different for for a new way and you know it sounds like you've been through a lot of shit in your life right? You've experienced a lot and you've gone through the things and have done the transformative stuff that it takes it's tough. Not everybody is at that same level but getting to.

10:57.58
cian
Um, the.

11:05.79
wildremedies
That point allows you to be in service of others who are going to be reaching out for for help right? So it's just kind of we have these different times in our life where we are searching for things and times where we need to be more grounded and and be in service.

11:22.59
cian
Yeah, yeah, yeah, and we can search where we are as well. You know that all that we're looking for all the mentors are available in Vancouver you know all the growth opportunities the nature.

11:24.70
wildremedies
And it sounds like that's what's happening right now. Yeah.

11:31.32
wildremedies
E.

11:41.46
cian
I mean in Bc as well like I just know where I am of course but I just think a lot of the things that I seek far away and in these big experiences are also available every day you know it's yeah.

11:54.40
wildremedies
Yeah, it's true and I've had this conversation with friends before too where I've seen this pattern of like constantly moving in order to you know, maybe run away from problems or to just have new experiences. And I know what I learned when you know I was doing that and hoping to feel more alive by constantly moving was that you just carry all those problems with you into the next phase that you're in.

12:18.54
cian
He he.

12:24.34
cian
Yeah, yeah, yeah I mean like there's a lot of growth that comes through too right? You know the problems certain problems come back, but.

12:27.31
wildremedies
You know, unless you really do the work to like address it. It's like it's just going to follow you wherever you go.

12:36.50
wildremedies
It is.

12:41.81
cian
Don't get me wrong. You can be quite successful as well like with changing and all that I like it can be really rewarding in many ways. But ultimately I think yeah, there's so much power in consistent small micro. Improvements to things. Yeah, and then the the simple the simple ways and the simple life are not really dramatized or shown in the movies. You know, um, how many how many Netflix shows are showing us.

13:01.40
wildremedies
Um, yeah.

13:15.81
cian
You know a family living on land doing arts and crafts and gardening and and that you know and people say it's not exciting but I'd like to see that that movie that movie more you know? and yeah, there's a lot of drama on Tv that this this.

13:24.37
wildremedies
Yeah, yeah.

13:35.19
cian
Pulling us towards. Yeah yeah, a lot of experiences that might might not always need.

13:39.31
wildremedies
Um.

13:42.23
wildremedies
Yeah, well, it's just juicing up the nervous system right? Yeah, totally yeah, it's interesting I've been experiencing that as well. Yeah I've been experiencing that more recently too and been very curious about how been reacting to certain things recently like.

13:46.66
cian
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

14:02.10
wildremedies
There's actually a lot of turbulence going on in my external life right now and you know I'm a person that generally thrives on chaos. But I usually do do do do through it right? I'm like okay problem need to fix it like go harder drive harder do all of these things. And in this case and I mean I'm very very grateful that I have a lot of support and have community now because I've been in 1 place more than like a year um and so I'm I'm held in that which I'm very grateful for but it's so odd I've just been feeling really really deep.

14:26.81
cian
And hi.

14:39.73
wildremedies
Peace and doing much less than I would normally do so instead of like going into panic mode and doing all this stuff to fix everything I've just I don't know I've just been overwhelmed with the sense of peace and knowing that there's something really good happening on the other side of.

14:47.52
cian
Um, hearing are.

14:59.55
wildremedies
These experiences that from the outside might look negative and yeah, it's been really It's been a really beautiful experience I'm just moving much more slowly you know like okay today's you know there's a few hard hard things that are going to come up and I'm just going to move through those with as much grace. As I can and I'm not going to be hard on myself and I'm not going to push myself and hurt my body through this experience by getting my nervous system all revved up and all of these things and wreck all of the healing. You know that that I've been doing for you know, many years but especially within the last few months

15:25.53
cian
Your.

15:37.72
wildremedies
And that's been a really big paradigm shift and feels feels really good.

15:40.66
cian
Yeah, how did you come to that that shift. How did that all of a sudden become your response to to this these events.

15:50.00
wildremedies
I Don't know man like key. So so much crazy shit has happened just in the past month. So I don't know if it's like energetic I threw a pretty big mushroom journey in the middle of that I had some illness and then some health and so like there's been.

16:05.22
cian
He.

16:09.62
wildremedies
So much I Honestly feel like I've just been thrown around inside like I've been in a dryer just tumbling tumbling tumbling. But it's also something that I experience frequently in in my life and I think a lot of it is just due to like.

16:15.54
cian
A.

16:26.83
wildremedies
My astrology and just things that I'm meant to experience in in this life. Um, and so I've been in many hard circumstances before and I feel like my job is to learn how to just let go in in those situations. Um.

16:31.87
cian
Um.

16:42.94
wildremedies
And I just have a lot of faith too. You know I work with some really amazing people like instead of working with business mentors I work with like psychics and stuff and they're like you know they're not telling me what's going to happen but there is you know some assurance. Ah just in the sense of.

16:56.53
cian
Business.

17:00.43
wildremedies
This is just a process that you need to go through and you are supported no matter what there is happiness on the other side of this and just keep keep keep your eye on your goals right? You know it's a real practice and all of the things that I've spent.

17:11.25
cian
Event.

17:19.40
wildremedies
Past Decade or more learning about you know Quantum physics and spirituality and all of those things. This really feels like an opportunity to practice all of that and you know we're presented with so much information and. We can spend a lot of time studying and listening to podcasts and all of these things but not often. Do We get an opportunity to actually put all of those things into practice and I feel like it's all kind of coming together. But I do feel like there was a pretty big shift.

17:42.70
cian
Um, yeah.

17:50.85
cian
Um, and.

17:55.81
wildremedies
Not in my personality but I think something to do with the mushroom journey that I did recently that's just really made all of my fucks fly away I just have very few fucks about things right now and I'm like maybe I should give more fucks I don't think I'm being irresponsible but it's just strange because I'm like I should be free.

18:03.61
cian
Yeah, yeah.

18:10.70
cian
Are.

18:15.37
wildremedies
Out. But I'm not and this is kind of cool. This is a good space to be in right now. Yeah doesn't suck.

18:21.32
cian
That's awesome. Yeah, sounds like you're becoming more your true self but give big giving less fucks that.

18:29.00
wildremedies
I think so this is what I mean with all of the spirituality and all of the things that have been studied this this is kind of the point that you want to get to right? where it's like what would they teach in Buddhism right? Like just let these things happen inner peace. All of that stuff and yeah, like not every day is.

18:40.95
cian
Um, yeah, yeah.

18:48.13
wildremedies
Still great like there's still little bits of anxiety and stuff that that come up but I'm able to just kind of watch it and be like okay I see what this is I know it's not. It's it's temporary. Let it pass and there's happiness on on the other side and contentment on the other side. So it's just kind of like this dance that I'm allowing to.

18:57.58
cian
Within.

19:07.74
wildremedies
To move through right now. Yeah.

19:10.17
cian
It's kind of what's going on collectively too. Perhaps you know, forget, there's so much throwing us off and you get so worried about the banking system or about the other systems or and then there's a kind of a letting go.

19:22.23
wildremedies
In.

19:25.40
cian
Like you know what can we do only focus back on ourself. You know.

19:29.30
wildremedies
Yeah, absolutely doesn't matter what's happening externally like we're always going to be Okay, that's a big lesson and it's tough because we can fight it but a lot of times I mean I'm I'm a believer in fate and destiny and all of those things and.

19:38.92
cian
Um, is in.

19:48.66
wildremedies
Racking my little brain and my ego being like how do all these things work like what exactly is free will and what isn't and what what? what are things that are just you know destined from the time that we come in to to happen and you know like I think it's both right.

20:01.15
cian
Beautiful.

20:06.79
wildremedies
And my spirit chose this on some level for a certain reason and I'm just going to let it happen and something amazing. Always happens when you go through these you know turbulent times. There's always you get out to the other side and you're like oh my gosh like yeah, that needed to happen for this reason and now all these other amazing.

20:26.39
cian
Um, you can yeah beautiful.

20:26.64
wildremedies
Things can can come in now. Yeah, well. Okay, so we talked about like your beginnings a little bit How how did you start getting into personal growth and wellness.

20:43.93
cian
Yeah, that that goes back quite a while. Actually um I would connect that with my younger brother who has who has autism he um he has you know more severe autism. Um, nonverbal.

20:50.74
wildremedies
In.

20:59.40
cian
You know so growing up with him was we learned I learned a lot from him but we also um as a family went to the us to place called the autism treatment center of America and. But basically when my parents went there instead of working more with my brother. They actually do a lot of work with the parents and their mindset and their and their beliefs and so from that they teach they taught um adult education programs basically personal growth.

21:24.18
wildremedies
Um, and.

21:34.12
cian
And that was a big intro for me as my parents were doing that and it was helping my brother and I was being exposed to it and then the earlyity twenty s I went I went to some programs there I went to um, well first I listened to tons of audio and stuff from from these. People and then um, went to like an extraordinary man program with my dad which was cool that yeah, that was a big a big catalyst for me and then that was the jumping off point it was deep deep personal growth. Really.

22:00.45
wildremedies
I'll meet.

22:09.40
wildremedies
And.

22:11.37
cian
From what you know what? I'm seeing today and how big this field is now. Um this was like heavy personal growth. You know, really getting in there with masters you know is what it felt like so it was a good good launching off point I didn't fully integrate.

22:15.49
wildremedies
He.

22:22.21
wildremedies
Wow.

22:30.82
cian
All the work because I kind of had these 2 sort of lives I felt like I um I still was in my peerd drivenven kind of way of being I did my boxing and stuff so I kind of had a private life of personal growth I was reading. Certain books and but I didn't really bring it back into my social circles and really like value that work that much that was part of the ah the gap for me was the integration and I would say um wim hof getting into the wim half stuff wim really kind of showed me a way of. Embiding that and integrating all of that. Um you could you know doing fun exciting things that seem kind of cool but also being quite open and spiritual and yeah, so that was another really good bridge for me to launch into it fully.

23:19.27
wildremedies
A.

23:27.80
cian
Just fully be that that kind of way.

23:27.78
wildremedies
Um, was your first breath with work experience with Wim Ho for like how were you introduced to breath work.

23:34.44
cian
Yeah I was not with Wim Hoffey I had heard of him while I was boxing professionally on some podcasts and was aware of ice baths for for athletes. So very superficial level of interest. But when I when I finished my last boxing fight.

23:42.55
wildremedies
It's.

23:53.25
cian
Professional fight a week later I was in Vancouver and I was back in an office and this time I was like this is not going to last I am not going to be able to do this again. Just the contrast from the excitement in in the us in California actually training with the best.

24:05.77
wildremedies
In.

24:11.82
cian
Guys in the world and back at the desk I just knew something had to change and got sent on a work trip into Ontario midwinter on my own in the snow and I was just like yeah this is it like so I I basically googled like personal growth.

24:31.56
wildremedies
Is.

24:31.98
cian
Vancouver and found a work workshop there that was called the mastery of self-expression and that title intimidated me and it was it was targeted more for actors initially initially that program still is but they have 1 for regular people. Long story short.

24:45.86
wildremedies
Interesting.

24:52.40
cian
Expressed that all the emotions not just the ones you like but all the anger and all that and then on the last day I was told to show up with a blanket and a pillow and don't eat and did a deep deep breath procession. It was yeah more of the rebirthing style of.

25:08.81
wildremedies
Here.

25:11.11
cian
Ah, breathing. Um and I just it was phenomenal for me I um had just you know well 1 thing is my my fist locked probably from my boxing or something I could not open my hand and somebody facilitated or help pry it open and. Once that opened I just had a rush of energy and electricity through my body that was just out of this world and then I I cried a lot for the first time and all I couldn't remember was 10 years I just let go of a lot of sadness and then.

25:42.80
wildremedies
From the.

25:49.46
cian
I Started to see the stories that I created in my life and how it seemed like I was just putting boulders in front of my my path to create obstacles and then I laughed hysterically at that way of going about life. It had the Cosmic giggle and that was for me just a powerful. And she did breathwork and I just was shocked the air could do that because I studied air energy through turbines as well for years and which is kind of ironic to to spend so much time studying machines and not much. Um, my own body and that was part of my transition too. But um I just remember thinking I can never unknow what just happened with air just fresh air and I just and I'll never walk away from breathwork I'll never let my mind diminish that and forget that experience and I just.

26:34.11
wildremedies
Remain you hey.

26:46.53
cian
Kept signing up for things I saw and um, yeah, followed the path and met with Wim and and became his first teacher in and Bc and then and then trained another breathwork as well.

27:01.92
wildremedies
That's so wild. Wow Yeah I've had some pretty profound breathwork experiences myself not at that level. It's interesting because I also get the tetany So like my hands claw up and like.

27:02.51
cian
Um, yeah.

27:18.65
wildremedies
My feet and I thought that that was just part of the process. That's what everyone's told me they're like oh yeah, that's just a thing that your body does Um, but that's so powerful that you sort of had a similar experience but it was metaphoric to your life and.

27:34.30
cian
Um, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, there's different.

27:36.41
wildremedies
All of the fighting that you've done and then by somebody prying your hand open. You just had like this huge emotional release That's amazing. Wow.

27:51.14
cian
Thoughts on on that and tetan and and that but yeah for me, it was it was that you know there was said holding on there was a like a a holding on to something that just didn't want to let go I believe it was in 1 hand more than the other as well I believe it was in my my dominant hand and.

28:06.35
wildremedies
Let's head.

28:09.89
cian
Yeah, there was just a strong fight in me, you know, um there still is a little bit of fighting me times you know, but um, yeah, there was just a lot in the nervous system that wanted to fight and that was part of the let and go. But I also knew nothing about breath work then so my breath mechanics who knows what I was doing.

28:19.28
wildremedies
You hear them.

28:29.15
cian
I was just hoffing and puffing and going for it like I was in a in a boxing match or something but yeah, relax, relaxing the Exhale you know and help balance it out active inhale with a more relaxed exhale.

28:32.79
wildremedies
Yeah.

28:42.82
wildremedies
What what is your opinion on Tetany like what? what do you think that is.

28:50.19
cian
I Think that you know similar to the cold. You know the hands get coldest the feet get coldest. You're they're furthest from the heart and as we breathe in that way in that conscious connected way where we're focusing on the inhale more. The exhales a letting go. We're getting a lot of Oxygen and as the Oxygen a we're we're constricting blood vessels. You know getting Vasa constriction as you hold the breath. We're getting the opposite blood vessels are opening so things start to tighten up. You know as as you breathed that way. It's not natural way to Breathe. It's.

29:10.47
wildremedies
You had it.

29:28.48
cian
You know it's a breathing exercise a healing exercise as given the cardiovascular system a strong workout and so is yeah, blood us is tighten the bit that you know the furthers from the Heart Teeny tiny capillaries are where the where we'll be will will feel it the most.

29:29.94
wildremedies
Head.

29:48.29
cian
You know there's also just the the way of looking at is energy is moving in the body and energy can show up as many forms you know heat. Yeah tension and the hands are where we express a lot you know and their um extension of the heart chakra.

30:05.45
wildremedies
He needed interesting.

30:07.64
cian
You know? So there's a lot of reasons it shows up in the hands but you could you could explain it more scientifically or more spiritually.

30:17.43
wildremedies
I'm definitely interested in the spiritual aspect like especially because of that experience that you had I've never put that together I always thought in the way that it's been explained to me is that it's just what your body does. It's just science. But from what you just explained. Having your hand opened in that release now I'm thinking that. Okay there's something else there to be explored because that happens to me every time I mean I have to do a fairly long session like well over 30 minutes in order for that to happen. Um, and generally. Just do shorter practices at home I kind of need somebody to help me get to that point because it can be kind of exhausting right? like just to I feel like I need to do it in like a group scenario and have a drum or something in order to like make it through to to that point.

30:54.98
cian
Or her. Um, yeah.

31:04.22
cian
Yeah, yeah.

31:09.67
wildremedies
Um, but yeah, it's like it happens to me every time and yeah now I Wonder if there's there's something else there.

31:13.72
cian
Yeah, set and setting will enhance the the medicine of the breath. You know, being witnessed tends to to enhance it as well. Just yeah, the group energy like you mentioned and the music and all that because breath work is.

31:19.88
wildremedies
Um, yeah.

31:26.67
wildremedies
He.

31:31.10
cian
Is simple but not always easy. You know we are the ones that are breathing So we're different to plant medicine where we take the medicine and off we go on on the journey breath work. We're meeting the medicine every breath every breath and every breath we can breathe more or less. We have our foot on on the gas pedal.

31:48.32
wildremedies
Is.

31:50.19
cian
So The subconscious is crafty tends to kind of it might want to pull us back as we get close to something especially when we're on our own. But um, you know in the group you can kind of you can get into that more of a trance here in other people's breath and the music and the energy and you. Get more into the experience. Yeah,, but but as you feel that you know you can choose of course to ease off the breath if it's feeling a lot. You know if you're in good hands with good Facilitators. You can be like you know what? I'm going to see what's ah what this is and just continue to breathe into it.

32:07.93
wildremedies
Yeah.

32:26.64
cian
Um, relaxing the Exhale and as you know what as something comes up. Can we still keep regulated and breathe into it but that relax breathe into curiosity. But then let go and not kind of like resist it so much. Yeah.

32:36.11
wildremedies
And.

32:45.50
cian
And and just get curious. What what is this? where do I feel it? yeah.

32:45.83
wildremedies
Um, yeah, also curious on what your opinion is on how this actually works like how does just breathing.

33:02.56
wildremedies
Unlock so much inside of us you know like I think there there's a lot of wisdom traditions that have used like Pranayama for example in yoga using breath of fire and Kundalini and all of those things. So it's something that's been used for.

33:04.57
cian
Yeah.

33:21.50
wildremedies
Thousands of years in other cultures in the west I think it's a little bit different and new for for a lot of us. But it's like is it some sort of like spiritual alchemy like is it magic is it. You know, just. Bio. Whatever like what? what What's your opinion on it.

33:37.10
cian
Um, yeah yeah I mean well breath is the source of life. You know it's the most important thing that that we do and the hierarchy of needs. You know it's air water food. That's the order air air comes first. That's what will kill us within minutes without doing it. So naturally, it can produce a lot of energy and we we our breath responds to every emotion every life life experience.

33:54.76
wildremedies
And.

34:10.67
cian
So as we go through life our you know ease natural breath pattern that we might come into the world with most of the time can start to change and shift and we start to you know, rather than breathe into an emotion you might start to kind of breathe away from it and sort of. Stuff things down because breathing helps you feel so anyway the breath pattern just changes ah over life and um, how he breaths how we live you know? so when we start to bring the breath back to how we were when we're younger it can. It can.

34:49.92
cian
Can bring up some stuff it really helps us to feel you know breath breathing helps us to feel a lot of what we're not feeling. We need to feel it to heal it. So as we feel stuff the energy moves I mean there's so many ways you can go about.

34:57.13
wildremedies
Um.

34:59.51
wildremedies
His.

35:07.84
cian
Looking at this. But as you connect the breath in and out without a pause. We're creating more of a flow of energy. So energy can kind of flow through the body versus like pausing the breath holding the breath the top breathing kind of radically as you respond to life something happens. Oh here's my boss being a little bit hard on me.

35:14.33
wildremedies
He says.

35:26.99
cian
Hold my breath Well then the breath session that thought might come up about the boss but hey let's just breathe into that and let it go and breathe into that and let it go so rather avoid feeling it we're leaning into it. Um, yeah I can.

35:34.66
wildremedies
Is.

35:45.20
cian
Throw out memories. You know as we start to breathe more how we were how we might have breathed as a kid or yeah, we're we're allowing the energy to flow through us. Yeah, um, we're also balancing out the hemispheres of the brain we're breathing into the belly which is our instincts.

35:55.17
wildremedies
A.

36:04.46
cian
Connecting that up into the heart you know into the intuition and thinking mind so everything starts to work together in 1 synchronized unit and magic happens through that of course the other answer is it's.

36:15.82
wildremedies
Here.

36:21.56
cian
It's ah it's a mystery in some ways right? It's um, it's It's just what we do as as humans. It's we breathe. That's that's what we do fish swim in water we move through air and we take it for granted, you know that this is.

36:35.13
wildremedies
He.

36:41.39
cian
Are a source of life. It's not food. It's it's it's air you know and there are supposedly people that live without food you know, live off air. Yeah so I um doesn't you know I like my food and all that. But.

36:44.38
wildremedies
He.

36:51.50
wildremedies
Um, breath area and see yeah why not.

37:01.42
cian
Idea of that is very interesting to me that um, did that that that might be a possibility I don't know um I but I believe it you know, especially again the world situation. There's been a lot of energy going into disempowering. Um.

37:01.46
wildremedies
Um.

37:21.17
cian
You know and um makes me ask the question. How powerful are we can. We actually do what is the fear of us being realizing our full power and potential. It must be off the charts What we actually can just one person.

37:25.46
wildremedies
He images.

37:40.50
wildremedies
In here.

37:40.52
cian
Can become and so imagine we get million a million people like that you know and that's that's what I want to lean into and it's ah endless quest it's the true hero's journey I don't claim to be any master in it. But I like. The idea of being open to that truth of what's possible and what is real and um, nudging towards that and in my new steady steady way.

38:12.40
wildremedies
Um, yeah, it's interesting like I Yeah I see breathwork as a form of magic and alchemy you know like we have this tool. Inside of us that we can use to create really really powerful changes and we are very powerful beings a lot of us just don't realize it have you ever read autobiography of a yogi.

38:40.84
cian
I was reading that in Mexico just a couple weeks ago I didn't get through the whole thing I borrowed it from a friend but I love it. Yeah.

38:50.60
wildremedies
It takes a while to get through and you kind of have to be ready for it. I remember the first time. Um I had I don't know if I had the book or the audiobook. But I was just like ah like I just I it wasn't resonating with me at all and then. Kind of came back into my life and I just binged it like I think I had it on audio and I was actually in Mexico at the time too I was living in puto varda and I just became completely obsessed with it and binge the whole thing and really got into Korea Yoga ah but it's so cool because you know this talks about like actual experiences of like.

39:15.50
cian
Um, next.

39:26.34
wildremedies
Masters of yoga who can do shit like levitate and like live without food and you know have a realization that it's time that their life to end and their body can literally just dissolve into like a lotus like there's so much stuff.

39:27.45
cian
Yeah, yeah.

39:42.33
wildremedies
Out there and a lot of it is documented like this is why I'm just so fascinated with mysticism and spirituality and all of these things because it's like it's legit like there are really really potent powerful things and all of that just has to do with your belief right? So like we have really cool tools like. You know our breath and things like that but coupled with our mindset and what we believe can just create such profound change and healing. It's wild and we're just kind of at the beginning of it. We're just.

40:13.35
cian
Um, yeah.

40:20.58
wildremedies
Well not at the beginning I think we've been there before but we're we're re-remembering we're relearning all of this.

40:24.28
cian
Yeah, yeah, and I agree a hundred percent just I love that concept of re remembermbering and that's something that's alive in me and the the mindset component is huge to just. Program that's running in our mind is is so essential I've kind of landed on this formula for health the moment that just seems I'm really into like so being so are simplifying things at the moment as I transition towards living on land and and that um.

40:42.44
wildremedies
A.

40:59.76
cian
But the formula that's coming up for me in Health is less poison and toxins in the body as written as possible. A better program running through the mind and that's kind of our responsibility to take control of the program and and what we think because there's a lot of other.

41:04.00
wildremedies
Can.

41:19.11
cian
People wanted to put different programs in there and then from there. It's the hierarchy of needs. It's air water food human connection movement you know and reproduction and all that stuff temperature temperature variation is is a big one too.

41:21.77
wildremedies
Yep.

41:36.45
wildremedies
The.

41:37.98
cian
To to awaken our our full capacity of who we are but you know that's the priority. You know how much time are we spending with our breathing with our air and you know it's It's just at the bottom of the pyramid A lot of people are spending time the top to self-actualization when they don't feel.

41:47.39
wildremedies
In.

41:57.42
cian
Say further, not breathing breathing right? It's just breathing made lot sense to me just as an athlete I couldn't find the reason an argument against it. Um.

41:58.17
wildremedies
Here now.

42:12.85
cian
I Could I could have debated like sitting around crystals in the room or something with my background but breathing as an engineer as an athlete is like everybody needs needs to do that and it's.

42:24.50
wildremedies
Yeah I think that's such a great first step for anyone who is new to personal growth. You know like. I've had people approach me recently who are just like you know, steeped in depression. Probably you know probably haven't done a lot of spiritual work or personal growth and they're just like hey I want to know about mushrooms like.

42:56.18
cian
Um, yeah.

42:56.89
wildremedies
You know I feel like I feel like I need to jump into a plant medicine journey and I'm like um I I don't know if that's really the first place that you want to start? And yeah I honestly like starting with the breath.

43:03.56
cian
Um, yeah.

43:14.27
wildremedies
I think is so important and especially when there's a lot of stuff in there that needs to be released I think a lot of folks too are resistant to different types of therapy and things out there too like they don't necessarily. They might not be ready to be witnessed or to have somebody you know prying into like you know some of the things that they. Find private and aren't ready to share yet I think it's a really potent way to just kind of start start there get started with breath work. Yeah.

43:43.10
cian
Um, yeah, yeah for sure.

43:47.88
wildremedies
That's what I'm going to recommend to people now. It's it's something that I've been thinking about because it yeah it is coming up more and I'm like okay I can't be recommending the same thing like what has worked for me and what I find potent is not for everyone. But I think breath work truly is. That's a really really great first step. And I think also for men too. You know I see it. Ah and I don't know if it's just because of Wim Hof and making it more popular and he seems like a really manly guy and you know ice bat seem really cool and whatever but I'm very grateful that we have that for the men's community.

44:14.70
cian
In there.

44:26.90
wildremedies
Um, so that it it is something that it feels like might be easier to step into than something that might seem like a little bit more feminine or or woo woo but still have like such such a big impact. Yeah.

44:27.19
cian
Losing. Ah.

44:35.60
cian
Um, yeah, ah yeah, totally.

44:47.85
wildremedies
Um I Want to know a little bit more about what you guys do at the stretch space.

44:54.34
cian
Yeah, yeah, well, um, stretch space me and my wife Carolyn opened it five years ago and one of the things we do is is hands on stretch therapy which is movement based therapy.

45:00.84
wildremedies
Here.

45:06.71
wildremedies
Here.

45:11.86
cian
So you could think of it as kind of like the opposite of massage instead of pushing and rubbing and mostly in stillness. We're pulling and moving the body around so you allow yourself to be let to let go as ah as a client or recipient and you just get moved around There's kind of a flowy nature to it. Um, it was created by dancers physios and stuff. But yeah, it's kind of moving with the client and allowing them to move in different ways and yeah, a really really good. Really great modality that. And we teach others our our work now. It's something we've stepped stepped into more recently they actually have a course coming up this weekend but we are. We're starting to train others in how to do this work. Um, and we also do breath work. You know one on one breath for breath for Journeys Lim Hoff

45:54.35
wildremedies
Okay.

46:03.74
wildremedies
Yeah.

46:10.12
cian
Yeah, those would be the main. The main things that we do at the studio Ans become a a strong community space too. There's a lot of community events there and other people rent the space and and that but.

46:21.66
wildremedies
Cool I'm really curious about the stretching. So what? what is the but I mean like obviously you know I do yoga and all that sort of stuff and if I haven't moved my body and like stretched in a while.

46:37.68
cian
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

46:39.64
wildremedies
Feels not great, but this sounds like it's a totally different technique like are you guys working on like Myofascia release or like what like how does it all work. What what are the benefits.

46:50.20
cian
Yeah, yeah, well we're um, we're addressing issues that are mostly caused by a lack of movement or a lack of healthy movement with with more movement.

47:00.47
wildremedies
Um, here.

47:02.93
cian
So as we keep modernizing our world. We are outsourcing our movement to technology so we are you know? For example, the thermostat it takes care of the heat. We don't light the fire I used to have to walk up U Street to go to the bank and now I do it on the phone. Um.

47:07.17
wildremedies
Again.

47:18.18
wildremedies
This.

47:21.82
cian
You know the just so many situations where we're needing to move less even the reverse camera in the car. We don't have to turn the neck anymore. So we'll start Oh so we'll we'll start to lose the ability to rotate the neck as well when we stop doing it.

47:32.96
wildremedies
Um, oh my God That's so true. Oh.

47:41.56
cian
And as you start looking down at the foam and not looking up as much we're gonna have a bias that way. So so our Fas and our tissue starts to create the shape that we most often make and we also start to lose expression as we as you come into less and less movements. You know, using our.

47:44.39
wildremedies
Um, and then.

48:00.90
cian
Everything in front of us Screen. We're not really using our shoulders like we would and so this is a way of we'll take care of the movement for you. You let go and we're going to move the body through all the possible ways. Can create some new neural pathways. It can really kind of open up some stuff and then ultimately so so the word stretching you know people might think of like a big huge stretch like a ballet dancer just stretching doing the splits for. Half an hour. You know a very extreme. Um, but this is you know the body moves in main different ways. So we're stretching a little bit here a little bit here a little bit here, but it's more movement that leads into the stretch. So if you imagine you reached up to maybe fix a light bulb. That's a stretch you know.

48:44.91
wildremedies
In.

48:54.96
cian
That's a stretch but I think of it more really as movement and so we're restoring movement first in a relaxed state and then what we teach is doing that in an active way and of ultimately moving yourself. In those ways as well is the is the ultimate goal.

49:13.43
wildremedies
And are there any aspects to like emotional health with these techniques too or is it just purely physical.

49:26.52
cian
Yeah, they definitely are that definitely not purely physical. Um your issues are in your tissues is one one thing like to say you know so you know if if 2 people have an office job.

49:33.22
wildremedies
And.

49:43.37
cian
1 of them loves their job and they're absolutely just you know their dad did it. They just this is cool. They're loving it and the other person really doesn't like the job the posture the person that really doesn't like it will probably be not as open even though they're sitting in the same chair doing the same thing. So the posture is reflecting his emotional state. So yeah, you know so it's hard to be really open and feel depressed. You know it's hard to be really kind of close and feel really joyful. So um.

50:05.65
wildremedies
Is.

50:19.84
cian
So yeah, totally I mean um, there's movement patterns. You know smokers have that pattern of and 1 movement it can. It can definitely unlock unlock some stuff. Um, especially if you combine it with with.

50:24.69
wildremedies
You hear.

50:38.45
cian
But Brathbo which I really like to as you know is getting into a little bit of breath doing the stretch the more someone's embodied and feeling the more the the better it's going to be the more effective. It's going to be.

50:38.76
wildremedies
A.

50:51.31
wildremedies
Yeah, someone told me once that like your emotions are stored in your fascia and I was like oh shit that's really profound and.

50:56.53
cian
Are in.

51:06.51
wildremedies
You know what you mentioned too about being so sedentary and stuff now you know like I definitely feel it even right now I've needed to do a lot of resting this past few weeks as I've been moving through a lot of things and taking.

51:14.43
cian
Um, yeah, yeah.

51:23.80
wildremedies
Some homeopathic remedies that have been taking for a few months I'm in like the real big detox phase right now which has been very uncomfortable and humbling um and it's just it's mate like I just can't do a lot at this point and so it's a lot of moving around and just.

51:28.51
cian
Um, yeah.

51:41.52
wildremedies
Kind of letting emotions and stuff pass through and but yeah, like it does not moving creates tension within the body that needs to be released and it can see how the emotional aspect gets in there as well. Actually a really interesting experience that I had through this.

51:43.30
cian
Um, yeah.

52:00.10
wildremedies
Healing process that I'm doing right now. The first month that I was taking these homeopathics. We were kind of targeting kidneys and I was getting these detox symptoms like my lower back was just killing me and I was like oh my god this is so uncomfortable like I need to do something. So I went youtubed a kundalini exercise for kidneys and the exercise had you put your hands on your hips and you're twisting so you're doing a twisting motion and as you're twisting. You're kind of pushing your thumbs into your kidneys and I think I twisted maybe like.

52:22.50
cian
Are.

52:29.43
cian
I.

52:38.10
wildremedies
2 or 3 times and then just started sobbing. Yeah and I was like oh okay wasn't expecting that to happen. But yeah, like clearly like these emotions and stuff were stuck in that organ system and I was able to to move it through.

52:41.75
cian
Oh ah.

52:47.34
cian
Are.

52:57.18
wildremedies
Movement and breath. There was a breath aspect too. So like as I'm saying I'm also breathing a certain way that yeah, that's actually how it works you know like this is such a crazy paradigm that I don't think a lot of people understand but a lot of the physical illnesses that we have stem from.

52:58.80
cian
Yeah f. And. Yeah.

53:15.23
wildremedies
Emotions yeah.

53:16.93
cian
That's really interesting. Yeah yeah I think I think movement still undervalues. You know, still Gene is like fitness you know, but it's really so essential so to our health which seems like an obvious thing to say now if we didn't Move. We would. You know, really not do you know we would not be well for sure a lot. It's all moving Energy. You know you mentioned the tension in the body. It's all moving energy breath work is moving Energy movement is moving energy if you see a child you know.

53:35.89
wildremedies
No for sure. Yeah.

53:50.33
cian
Baby or a child. They just always. They're always moving energy if they're frustrated. It's let it go right away if they want to have a sound. They make a sound. They're always moving their body. They're always moving and then we kind of have you know, get get molded into this socially appropriate way of.

53:51.91
wildremedies
Is.

54:07.43
cian
Being you know, walking through the world in straight lines and sitting on our chairs and you know eating eating certain ways and stuff you know, um, we kind of lose that full expression and stifle certain. Yeah. Movements and emotions and and breath and they're all they're all tight tight together right? They're all they're all important but but breathing can our movement can change our breathing you know like we could sometimes lay down. Do 20 minutes of breath but sometimes we could just.

54:29.25
wildremedies
I Mean yeah.

54:43.46
cian
Express a lot of anger or just shout or go on top of mountain and laugh your head off or and that's going to also change your breathing maybe more much quicker possibly if that's what you're needing so movement sound any kind of moving energy. Can.

54:51.61
wildremedies
Now.

55:02.74
cian
Influence the breath. So sometimes you need breathwork and sometimes we can just need to move some energy and yeah.

55:08.39
wildremedies
Yeah, amazing. Well we're getting close to the end of our time but before we go tell me about this land that you bought every time you mention it I can kind of just see like.

55:28.84
cian
Yeah, yeah, yeah, the land is the dream dream come true. It's in some Vancouver all and in couch and Valley but 10 acres with some dear friends of ours. Um.

55:40.50
wildremedies
Um, and.

55:45.29
cian
Robin who's known in the breath communities. Great breath teacher and great friend and yeah, we bought this ten acre piece and we have a beautiful vision and there's already 2 families living there. We're not living there ourselves currently. But. Yeah, we brought we was raw land we've brought in services we um, we know the next neighbors really? Well we have a beautiful community already. It's we've got 7 kids on the island and 6 adults so we just had there's another baby born recently girl.

56:05.54
wildremedies
Oh wow.

56:19.15
wildremedies
And.

56:21.85
cian
And so we're outnumbered and kids are now outnumbering the adults. So yeah, it's just going to be. It's just everything I've dreamed streamed for it's the ultimate kind of security for me really to have that spot.

56:34.46
wildremedies
In.

56:40.90
cian
The food and our own water and yeah, it's um, well eventually you have you know retreats and things like that that too. But ultimately it's primarily. It's a home and something that we're just.

56:43.95
wildremedies
A.

56:52.54
wildremedies
Yeah.

56:56.72
cian
Taken step by step and listening to the land and learning learning about our rights and stuff too as we as we develop certain things there. Yeah.

57:10.82
wildremedies
Ah, it's such a beautiful area too. My grandparents lived in Duncan close by there for many years and I spent a lot of time on couchin river.

57:21.66
cian
Yeah, we're five five minute walk from couch and river yeah, it's beautiful. Yeah yeah, right there by the floating epicenter yeah I recommend to know the the land.

57:24.30
wildremedies
And that whole area. Ah so good floating down that river is like 1 of the most magical things. Yeah, nice.

57:41.26
cian
Um, it's It's a lot of work to do it in Community. Um, but you know it's very possible and we we still have a lot to learn a lot of things to overcome and all that. But um. I would say the most important thing is the relationships you know and having knowing people and having that ability to what we call Counsel you know to meet regularly and discuss openly any concerns and issues and the more frequently you do that the less stuff festers and and the more you can just.

58:09.24
wildremedies
Hit hands.

58:17.30
cian
Come to terms and make remedy with what's fair, what's reasonable and um, you know you can get yourself a portion of land for less than the cheapest condo in Vancouver you know and you don't even own that condo you.

58:31.32
wildremedies
Hey yeah.

58:35.91
cian
I Mean you can't have a dog you can't do this. You can't do that. Um, they're going to try to tell us that in the land as well. At some point here in the future I feel but um, once we know our our rights as men and women we can We can stand for what.

58:41.81
wildremedies
So here.

58:53.35
cian
What you know is is right for the land and ah yeah, so I just I'd be open to sharing with anyone if anyone's really serious looking and needs a couple tips I think it's It's great.

58:54.31
wildremedies
He.

59:09.80
cian
Movement for us to move into um like I say it's the opposite of the Netflix life. You know the the serial killers and the murders and all that all that drama on there and this is just for me. My vision is just to live on the land in community.

59:15.80
wildremedies
He.

59:28.86
cian
Provide as much as we can for ourselves you know, um, have some income from the land and people coming and that's it call it a day. The rest is kind of um lot of Drama I see it is but of course I want to travel the world and teach and share my gifts but the land is just.

59:39.89
wildremedies
And here.

59:47.20
cian
Kind of the main. The main piece to that. Yeah.

59:49.83
wildremedies
Yeah I feel very called to do the same thing been waiting for the right time and circumstances but especially with everything that's happened over the past few years I'm like who yeah.

01:00:00.50
cian
Yeah.

01:00:08.15
wildremedies
That sovereignty needs to happen food security you know community with like binded individuals. We don't know what the future holds in store for us. But we can see how things can turn into a pretty epic shit show very quickly and um.

01:00:23.99
cian
Um, was a.

01:00:26.10
wildremedies
Having some agency over our lives and the decisions that we make is extremely important to me and I think a lot of the people in our community and the people that listen to this podcast and not everybody will be able to to do that right? like there's lots of things that you can do.

01:00:41.32
cian
Um, no is is it? Yeah yeah.

01:00:42.70
wildremedies
At home and in the city and a lot of people choose to live in cities and and that but yeah that that that way of life is definitely calling to me as well. So that's so exciting and inspiring that you're moving in that direction.

01:00:53.93
cian
Yeah I get that it's not. It's not easy with it with real estate here and stuff too. It's It's definitely not easy and not not everyone can do it. But there's all yeah I also feel that one community's not enough you know with what's coming. Um.

01:01:01.10
wildremedies
Oh it's insane. Yeah.

01:01:12.87
cian
Can do a lot in one community but I see like nodes of communities. You know there' be a community and so spring there' be 1 in Colonna to be. You know we just kind of share what we learn and resources together and and then we have like that's really a strong.

01:01:24.47
wildremedies
He had.

01:01:30.73
wildremedies
Agreed.

01:01:30.73
cian
Strengthen numbers. You know if ah if the communities can network together and get smarter and wiser and yeah power to power to the people.

01:01:41.78
wildremedies
Um, yeah, and focus on healing too right? like it sounds like you want to have retreats and that aspect to to what you're building there as well. Hey.

01:01:51.44
cian
Yeah, yeah, the land. The land itself is so healing too. That's something that I've learned there's a slowing down there. There's a more of a presence than the people. Um I definitely feel a big shift when they come from the city there. So maybe we don't need as many big.

01:01:56.17
wildremedies
Yeah.

01:02:11.15
cian
Exercises you know to get into people's deep stuff. Maybe you just need to slow down and um, we be human and rest and do human things. Yeah.

01:02:15.27
wildremedies
Breast.

01:02:23.32
wildremedies
